Morons on Both Sides

Apparently the modern way to handle political disagreements in Austin is to damage the other party's vehicle. And it doesn't matter if you are a Democrat or a Republican. And no, no one gets to claim the moral high ground on this one. Both sides have their share of idiots who need to grow up (yes, and be prosecuted). And kudos to them for taking the level of discourse right down the tubes.

I see a lot of false equivalence here, though, too: Robbie (UrbanGrounds) insisted right-wingers don't do this stuff; the anti-Obama incidents were much worse (including MeanRachel's tire slashing), and the BOR kids didn't try to claim that the violence the other way didn't exist or wasn't as severe (even though by anectdote it WAS a lot less severe).

Nevertheless, Mike, neither side has any excuse for any behavior such as this. Yes, the anti-Obama incident to which I linked was worse insofar as the amount of damage to the vehicle, but both incidents display the same contempt for the other side.

I'm sure I could dig up similar anti-GOP incidents to match that. But I don't want to try to have one side one-up the other. Wrong is wrong, and both offending parties are idiots.

Again, false equivalence: neither Mean Rachel nor BOR made the claim that the violence directed against them was purely a Republican-versus-Democratic thing, while Robbie did, in fact, make such a claim in the other direction. I think that's a critical difference here - MR and BOR would likely agree with you, while Robbie would insist that only the Dems were idiots.

Yes, but I'm not speaking for Robbie, only for myself.
